In today's market, doors come in many shapes, sizes, colors, and materials. Though technology has advanced, and the door market has expanded its material range, wooden doors remain popular with people.

There are two types of doors mainly: Prehung and Slab

Prehung doors come with a weather-stripped frame and we do not need to square the door in its jamb. These doors are best for new construction where rough framing is exposed. Slab doors are sold without hinges and lockset boring. These doors are generally used to replace existing doors when the jamb and trim are in place. Before buying your door, repeat the measuring process to save yourself from installation problems.

Before installing the Prehung door, measure the width of the door frame’s rough opening between the jack studs and the height from the underside of the door header down to the top of the subfloor. The final prehung assembly should be 2 inches narrower and 1 ½ inches shorter than the opening to leave enough space for shims and insulation.

If you want to install a slab door, then measure the width of the existing opening between the jambs inside the stops and the height from the finished floor to the underside of the head jamb. The final door dimensions will be ¼ inch shorter and narrower than these measurements. Also, determine the door’s thickness measure from the interior edge of the jamb to the interior edge of the stop and determine the door's thickness.

To maintain your wooden door, you need to re-coat doors every year. Painted doors should also, get fresh color coats every five to six years.
